Continental FA of Buea has qualified for the third round of the qualifiers in the South West Region for the 2021 edition of the Cup of Cameroon.

In a tactical masterclass, Continental FA defeated the University of Buea FC 3-1 on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Tiko Town Green Stadium.

This was the second meeting between the two sides in four days. The teams had earlier faced each other on matchday two of the ongoing South West Regional League. A lone strike from Diuedonne Youni was enough to give all three points to Continental in that encounter.

Dieudonne Youni continued his goal scoring record against the University of Buea FC as he was on-hand to help his side defeat UB FC.

It was the University of Buea who, however, got off to the best possible start in the game. Just 4mins was enough to give UB FC the lead as Wilfred Brice had a beautiful strike which gave the University of Buea FC the lead.

Robert Koneyi then had the first meaningful chance for Continental as his strike went just above the crossbar.

Continental had been threatening to get an equalizer, and they will get that much-needed equalizer at the 16mins. Dieudonne Youni had a powerful strike which Mark Jisi couldn’t keep out.

Ashu Junior had the opportunity to get an equalizer for the University of Buea FC but his shot was deflected, to the disappointment of the fans.

Dieudonne Youni like in the first encounter against UB FC was a menace in the encounter. His presence was enough to cause the defence of UB to make a host of mistakes. A mistake from goalkeeper Mark Jisi at the 19mins let to Continental picking up their second goal of the game. Arrey Oduak took advantage of the mistake from Mark Jisi and slotted it into the back of the net.

Continental continued to show their dominance in the game with a series of chances. Robert had the opportunity to extend the score-line as he went round the goalkeeper but his shot was weak which let to it being intercepted.

Continental wouldn’t have to wait long, however, for their third goal of the game. Ndive Njie took advantage of another mistake from the UB FC defence at the 30mins and scored a chipped goal, one that let to jubilation from the Continental fans and disperse on the part of the University of Buea FC technical area. At half time it was Continental FA who led the University of Buea FC 3-1.

The second half began with the University of Buea FC intensifying the pressure against Continental. Few minutes into the second half it was UB that had two clear chances to score.

Ndukong Kinfer had the clearest opportunity to bring his side to just one but could not convert.

The pressure seemed to be getting the best of Continental who were guilty of a host of errors. Both sides could not take their various opportunities and the game ended 3-1 to Continental.

Continental FA heads into the third round after defeating both EEMSA 22 and the University of Buea FC.

It should be noted that in the first round of the qualifiers, it was Continental that whitewashed EEMSA 22 by six goals to 0. The draws for the third phase is expected after the conclusion of the various matches.
