The Egyptian minister of Sports, Ashraf Sohbi held a meeting with officials of the Egyptian Football Association this weekend. The meeting was aimed at discussing the way forward for tge Egyptian premier league following weeks of inactivity in the country as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Reports from kingfut.com say Sunday’s meeting was aimed at finding the best options to ensure a safe resumption of football activities in the country.
The meeting was also an avenue to discuss the FA’s readiness to resume hostilities after the CoronaVirus pandemic.
Speaking after the meeting minister Sobhi discussed the objectives of the meeting.
“The target of today’s meeting is to improve the Football Association’s readiness for the league resumptions. We also met to determine the number of stadiums that would host the domestic games if the government decides to resume the football activities anytime.”
“The decision to resume football activities is in the hands of the Egyptian government due to the CoronaVirus. But it’s now difficult to decide resuming football activities.”
So far, 18 of the 34 games have been played. Al Ahly well on course to win their 42nd domestic league title. They are 16 points ahead of second-placed Al Mokawloon.
24 hours before the minister’s meeting, Al Ahly had written to the FA urging them to resume the domestic championship.
