The Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, on Tuesday May 12, 2020 decided to put an end to the 2019/2020 football season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision did not only affect the Elite one and two championships, but equally affected the Women’s league as well as the various regional and divisional championships.
The end of the various regional leagues means that the players and various actors involved in the game have been left to suffer on their own.
Since the championship was suspended in March, these players, considered as the future of our football have been abandoned.
With all the money spent by amateur club presidents and promoters, nobody is saying anything about them.
These presidents and promoters toil day and night to pay the training allowances and match bonuses for their players. Imagine the money spent by these presidents in the North West, South West, West and other regions. Some of these presidents are planning to withdraw if nothing tangible is done to salvage their situation.
“With all the money that we have spent, our only compensation is that we have been reaffiliated for the 2020/2021 football season, funny right?”, an amateur club president lamented.
Considered as the backbone of the Cameroon Football Federation, one would have thought that, these amateur clubs will have the pride of place during these trying moments. But the country’s FA rather tilted it’s attention towards it’s professional league.
