Covid 19 virus causes Botswanan Football Association to suspend football activities.

With Africa gradually reporting more suspected cases of the corona virus, countries and football associations have either withdraw from competitions or suspend sporting activities.
Countries such as Morocco have suspended camping for 2020 CHAN, Ghana has suspended football activities as well as other African Nations.

In a communique signed Monday, 16 March by the Secretary General of Botswana Football Association Mfolo Edwin Mfolo, to all Regional Football Association, Botswana Premier league, First Division North League, First Division South league, Women’s Football Association, football activities have all been suspended till the 10th of April 2020.

This comes after an emergency committee meeting was held on March 12, to discus issues relating to the virus.

The decision was necessitated by the World Health Organization (WHO) declaration of the virus as a pandemic.

“Coronavirus has been declared a pandemic by World Health Organization and therefore, the Association has taken a decision to temporarily suspend all football activities until April 1010 2020.”

It further reads that “the heath and well-being of our players, supporters and stakeholders and those involved in the operation of the football matches is of utmost importance.”

The Botswanan Football Association is doing some assessments and guidance while keeping close collaboration with the Government and health officials towards containing the virus.
