Jean-Charles Castelletto’s Nantes have reached the French Cup final for the first time in 22 years after eliminating AS Monaco on post match penalties on Wednesday March 2,2022.
This was after an exciting game finished in a 2-2 draw before FC Nantes win the shootouts 4-2 in front of their supporters.
Charles Castelleto who contributed greatly at the defense compartment of Cameroon at the just ended AFCON, was part of Coach Antoine’s first 11 players who started the game at the defense alongside Nicolas Pallois, Dennis Appiah and Andrei Girotto.
Nigeria winger Moses Simon scored the decisive spot kick to make it 4-2 that spark a pitch invasion at Stade de la Beaujoire as jubilant Nantes fans celebrated.
Monaco’s missed penalties came from France internationals Wissam Ben Yedder, the league’s top goal scorer, who is known to be regular penalty taker and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni who had their penalty kicks saved by Backup goalkeeper, Remy Descamps.
Coach Antoine Kombouare’s side is on course for a first trophy since winning the cup in 2000.
Having only just stayed in the first division after winning a promotion-relegation playoff last season, it has been some level of change for Nantes.This time they are seventh.
Monaco took the lead at the 12’ when Guillermo Maripan headed in a free kick and Nine minutes later, Monaco presented Nantes with an equaliser as Djibril Sidibe tried to cut out a cross from Randal Kolo Muani but turned the ball into the back of his own net.
Nantes got the lead at the 74’ through Samuel Moutoussamy which lasted for just two minutes before Myron Boadu levelled with a header.
It should be noted that In the French Cup extra-time can only be played in the final.
Nantes have now booked a final spot and will go against Nice at Stade de France on May 8,2022 with the aim to win the title for the fourth time after failing to make-it- pass the semifinals in years.
Castelletto and teammates will go against Nice who defeated fourth-tier Versailles 2-0, having knocked out defending champion, Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille.
He made his 47 appearance for Nantes at the semi final starting the game after agreeing a deal to stay with the club until 2026.
