Canon Yaounde are in Garoua for their delayed match-day six fixture against dreaded Cotonsport of Garoua.
The clash between two of Cameroon’s most successful clubs combined is a mouth-watering one as not only does it mark the meeting of former employees but it provides an opportunity to whip up sentiments of the past and right the wrongs.
Canon Yaounde particularly with Martial Bayegue, Ngon A Tati and coach Minkreo Birwe (All former employees of Cotonsport) have an added responsibility to end an unwanted run that seriously deadens the Club’s image.
It sounds too good to be true but ten times Cameroon champions Canon Yaounde have not won at the home of 15 times champions Cotonsport of Garoua since a 3-0 triumph in July 2015.
Five visits to Garoua from then till date have either ended in a win for the host or at most a draw.
In fact, non of the current players of both sides were on the books of their current clubs when this happened over five years ago.
Therefore the clash between the historical top dogs in pool B will be a must win for Canon and more or less the same for Cotonsport who are keen on keeping their momentum going into next week’s crucial CAF Confederation cup game against Algeria’s JS Kabylie.
Canon are currently second seeded in the championship with 9 points from four games. The Kpakum have suffered just a defeat this season while Cotonsport are 5th with six points from three games.
Lambert Ngueme Araina of Cotonsport, the championship’s lead scorer and his attacking colleagues will look to punish the brilliant Canon backline barely days after they reaped NASPA Stars apart.
