Cameroon Elite One giants Cotonsport of Garoua will be without lead defender Solomon Charles Banga Bidjeme II this Wednesday when they take on Algerian side Jeunesse Sportif Kabylie in Garoua.
Coach Souleymanou Aboubakar has named a match-day squad without the 25-year old Cameroon international as he is suspended due to accumulation of bookings.
Banga picked up a second-half booking in Cotonsport’s last home game in the competition against NASPA Stars FC two weeks ago in Garoua thus putting him out of the crunch clash.
Goni Ali who has started the last two games as a defensive partner to Banga is likely to lead the center of the defense alongside another Cameroon international Herve Ngomo or Under-17 Lions of Cameroon defender Eric Moursou or the gaffer deploys Richard Ebongue as a makeshift center-half.
Ngombe Etame and Kamilou Daouda miss the clash for health reasons.
Banga has started nine of Cotonsport’s 10 games in the competition and with him in the team the Cotonites have only conceded twice.
This Wednesday’s game in Garoua is more or less a final. Cotonsport go into the fixture in a fine run of form of five wins and one defeat in the past six games while JS Kabylie have only won one, lost two and played a draw in that series.
JS Kabylie lost one-nil away to ES Setif in their last competitive fixture in the Algerian Premier League and are winless in three CAF Confederation cup group stage games this season.
Cotonsport suffered a one-nil defeat in the reverse fixture also without Banga, a result the Club is keen on overturning to reach the last eight of Africa’s interclub secondary competition.
The defender who played every minute as skipper of Cameroon during the last African Nations championship tournament on home soil will be available in the final group game against holders RS Berkane later this month.
The 15 times Cameroon champions are playing their best football in Continental competition in close to a decade and look poised to have a great run in the competition.
Cotonsport have won all but one of their five home fixtures in the competition. A win for Felix Oukine and co on Wednesday will secure top spot in group B with a game to spare.
The 2pm kick off at the legendary Roumde Adja Stadium in Garoua will also mark the return of coach Denis to the place he served for three successful years and wracked a number of silverwares for a great Cotonsport side.
Cotonsport are three points atop the group and seconded by JS Kabylie who must win to stay in the chase for the top spot.
