Cotonsport defender Che Malone Fondoh Junior says he will have extra motivation when he lines up against his former club Union Sportive of Douala on Sunday in the semi final final of the cup of Cameroon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
Malone enjoyed a great time at Union Sportive of Douala between 2019-2021 though it had an unhappy end as they were relegated on the eve of his departure to Cotonsport.
‘The Union is like every game but the fact that it is a semi final, creates a bigger desire to win,’ Che told kick442.com after training on Saturday.
Coton and Malone are chasing a domestic double for the first time time since 2014 and the defender believes the entire squad is quite motivated to achieve the feat of the Kingue Njoh Mpondo generation.
“Union is a good team and I respect them plus the club for all they gave me but now they challenge we have and want to overcome it to get to the final,’ Malone added.
The central defender enjoying a brilliant debut season at Coton will be hoping he and his partner Goni Ali keep their record of not conceding as a pair in defense during their running in the cup this season against a Union side that has scored goals in big game games this season.
On whether he is surprised to see Union in the last four; ‘I play for Cotonsport now and I’m very happy to be here. It’s going to be a tough game as we know they have a lot of strength, but we have to use our strength to make this a happy event.’
Malone could finish his first season at Coton with two trophies if all go per his plan.
