FT Uganda 🇺🇬 2 – 1 🇿🇦 South Africa

Juliet Nalukenge scored the winning goal as Uganda beat South Africa 2-1 during the final of the inaugural COSAFA women’s Championship at the Francois Xavier Stadium in Mauritius on Sunday.

The thrilling final featured two of the most outstanding nations at the 8 nation tournament.

South Africa made a dream debut after a ruthless 28-0 win over Seychelles. But the tournament favourites had quite sterner opponents to deal with.

Uganda who were guests at the tournament, become just the second guest team to win a COSAFA title, after East African nation Tanzania won the U-20 women championship in August.

The East African guest took the lead from a 56th minute effort from Fauzia Najjemba but South Africa’s super-sub Tiffany Kortjie leveled scores minutes later with a header. Uganda regained the lead through Nalukenge’s excellent finish which sealed the visitors a win.

The young Uganda’s skipper Juliet Nalukenge bagged home the golden boot scoring 18 goals during the regional football championship meanwhile keeper Delphine Nyayenga was awarded the golden gloves after an outstanding campaign.

South Africa’s captian Jessica Wade was named player of the tournament.

Uganda scored 46 goals and conceded only twice during the opening and closing games.

They trouced Comoros 20-0 on Tuesday to move into the semi finals.

The 2019 COSAFA took place between September 20th- 29th, 2019 in Port Louis, Mauritius. It was the maiden edition.
