Zambia started their title defense on a good note defeating Comoros Islands 2-0 in the second group B tie of the day at the Gelvandale Stadium.
In game where the Young Chipolopolo dominated the first proceedings piling up pressure to get a goal, the Comoros lads were resolute in defense.
However, the defense of the Islanders caved in the 31st minutes as an error by Mfoihaya made rubbish of a great defensive display by Comoros. His error in clearing the ball from the box saw the already-hyped Charles Majapa pouncing on it and slotting it home.
Comoros made a call for a penalty in the 37th minutes but the referee decided otherwise. The first half of the tie ended at 1-0 nil.
In the second half, Zambia still looked the better side as they created chance upon chance, but the breakthrough didn’t come until the 69th when Joseph Sabobo Banda scored to increase the tally to two.
He gets his first goal of this year’s tournament and Chipolopolo’s second with ease thanks to a Comoros defence that finds itself in all sorts as the game wears on.
Zambia did well with occasional offensive display to seal three points and a good win at the end of ninety minutes.
