Host of the COSOFA men’s under seventeen championship, South Africa came from behind to get a 2-2 draw at the Gelvandale Stadium on Sunday.
Two goals from Mahlangu and Shabalala ensured that the Amajimbos pegged back the Malawians at very point they went ahead.
In the match, the South Africa dominated proceedings, but it Malawi who drew the first blood.
In the 37th minutes, Chiwanda played a long pass into the heart of the South Africa defence, left vacant by the four backline players, which saw an alert Zakeyu pouncing on it as Mhone left the sticks to clear up, with the ball going under his arm as he falls to the left.
The lads from South Africa come out strong in the second half scoring in the early minutes of the half.
Malawi, just like the first half went ahead for the second time in the game after 19 minutes
Stevie Banda got on the end of a ball spilled by Erasmus which his teammate Mhone, initially, had a go at before the rebound found him with Gumede and Shabalala attempting to converge on the ball.
However, the young South Africans didn’t give up without a fight as Mahlangu was the saviour to salvage the situation.
He levelled the match at 2-2 after a corner kick.
The vote for the man of the match was given to Mduduzi Shabalala.
South Africa play Angola on Tuesday while Malawi trade tackles with Zambia.
