The first match of the day in the COSAFA Under seventeen youth championship between Botswana and Malawi ended in a two all draw at the Gelvandale Stadium.
It was Malawi who set the ball rolling scoring early in the first half through Mapulanga who capitalised on Botswana’s defense errors.
Botswana however utilized the one man advantage after Mbewe of Malawi was given the matching orders as he went for the man by clipping Tlhowe on the ankle.
Botswana restored parity before the close of the first phase through Tihowe at the dead of half time. He ceased a chance in open space to make a run into the Malawi danger area with only the goal at his mercy. He profited from a cool right shot to finish!
The second phase didn’t produce a goal until the 82nd minutes when Botswana capitalised from a collision between the Malawi keeper Mhone and his centre-back, Mbewe, with Kgaola making no bones of the clear chance to pocket the ball home and give Botswana the lead.
Malawi came back in the 90th minutes through a penalty after Bafeletse brandished the hand of doom in the 89th minutes.
Chiwanda stepped up and sends the ball crashing into the back of the Botswana net to level the score for Malawi.
At this point, there was little to do in the game as the referee blew the final whistle five minutes later to end the match and see the two countries at par in group B.
