After offering to house health staff during the Coronavirus pandemic, Ivorian winger Wilfried Zaha and his real estate business partner Obi Williams have reported witnessing a flood of requests.

Zaha and Obi announced on Twitter that they will be offering free accommodation to National Health Service [NHS] workers in England who were putting their lives on the line to fight against the dreaded virus.

“We were inundated with so many people who were in need,” Obi Williams the co-owner of Zo Properties, told BBC Sports Africa.

“We were trying our best to see who we can help and who we can house based on what we had available.”

Zaha’s partner Obi Williams told BBC Sports Africa that since they made the offer, they have given out 50 units to National Health Service workers.

“Just like any other business, we’ve been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Obi said.

“We decided that there had to be something we could do with our empty room.”

Zaha’s partner has stated that they have been “blown away” by the requests they have received since making the offer.

“We’be had landlords who have got in touch with us about their properties and said ‘just take it for as long as the NHS need it’”.

Obi Williams has urged more companies to follow suit as the UK tries to contain the pandemic.

“It’s turned into something we did not expect,” he added.

“We’re glad to be able to have helped. We’d like to do more so the key thing is if anyone out there help, help.

“This is an unprecedented time. From our side, we hope this thing passes and everyone comes together.”

The sporting world has been in one voices against the Coronavirus as a number of sports personalities have not only joint their voices to the call of more preventive measures, but some have also made important donations to help in the relief efforts
