Former Coach of USD and former player of PWD Agbor Ernest must say goodbye to one of the two clubs he holds dear to his heart this Saturday.
In an exclusive with kick442.com the gaffer is already thinking of what makes this game arguably the best one come the weekend: “the match is special because the two teams started with victories and they were at the the top when the ‘play downs’ started and today they are playing for one chance. One team must play League 2 and the other League 1 next season. PWD and USD have been friends for a very long time even when I was a player_so, today they have to separate in this Championship 2019-it is a very sad situation”.
Coach Ernest continued on what can make the difference in this intriguing encounter “What makes the difference are two things-the respect of strategy and game plan. If they can respect those two things: strategy and game plan, one would make the difference. Another thing is the respect of things that does not talk of talent in order words, zero talent; such as passion, attitude, efforts, doing extra and being on time during offensive and defensive manoeuvers during this game, endeavoring to act not react”.
As someone who has been in the two club’s, coach Ernest admits that it is going to be difficult to see one club drop:”If any of the two teams is to be relegated to the league 2 championship it would be a big loss to their Regions and the supporters of the team. USD is the Biggest team in the Littoral region while PWD is the most supported team in the Northwest region, so people would feel so bad. Well, it has happened, the two teams must clash for one to survive”.
‘Teacher’ as he is called continued with what he thinks has not been blending for these club’s just yet, as he blames the system of the championship particularly” I believe it is the model of the championship that has brought a lot of problems to the two teams because it was so short. These teams; PWD and USD, have young players, with young players you need long time for them to adapt and take the steam. So, I believe it is just the model of the championship. The season were too short that’s why with their situation having young players they were unable to go through without problems”.
The final question was indented to tickle the gaffers opinion on how long these teams could continue to be at a top level-“after this season the teams just need to multiply the value of the group by offering the right environment, delivering holistic support and providing proper pathway, and opportunity to the players so that they should make a very good season and go ahead to maintain a good level of the team as no other”.
“I wish both clubs the best in their short term and long term ambitions”; Cameroon’s deputy coach of the Intermediate Lions at the 2016 & 2018 CHAN competitions concluded.
Agbor Ernest as a Defender for PWD of Bamenda faced Union Sportive of Douala in the 1995 & 1996 League 1 seasons in Cameroon.
He also served as a coach at USD between 2015-2018.
The clash this Sunday will unfolds in the Limbe Centenary Stadium at 4:00 PM local time. The two teams would be going at each other without any malicious intent, but to try and secure top-light status for next season. This is what they play for! And this is what we live for.
