After suspension of leagues by Football Associations earlier this year as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, some leagues around the world have been cancelled. National federations have now switched to cancellation is to protect the lives of players, fans and officials.
Congo being one of the countries affected by the CoronaVirus pandemic had suspended its league in March 2020 and recent reports Tuesday May 5th, 2020, reveals that Congo Ligue 1 have been cancelled and AS Otoho d’Oyo crowned champions.
“The 2019/2020 Congo Ligue 1 season has been concluded due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. AS Otoho d’Oyo have been declared CHAMPIONS. They had opened a 14-point lead at the top with only four games to end the season.” NUHU Tweeted.
This decision follows same with other leagues already canceled like those in Mauritius Island, Kenya, Burkina Faso amongst others.
Other African countries including Cameroon are expected to make the fate of their current season known based on the correct standings.
