The long-awaited 2021 Cup of Cameroon final between PWD of Bamenda and Les Astre of Douala will be played this weekend at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, exactly a week after initial plans proved abortive.
According to our findings plans are underway to have the game played at the historic facility in Yaounde on Sunday March 13, 2021 with kick-off pencilled for 3pm local time.
The final which will be the third for both clubs will be chaired by the Prime Minister and head of government Chief Joseph Dion Ngute who also chaired the last final in 2020. This pan-African portal understands the public announcement will be made in the hours ahead but the clubs have been briefed and will move into town from Tuesday to continue preparations. The different committees in charge of the event will multiply efforts from this Monday and referees for the game have been picked.
The domestic Championship is expected to kick off three days later.
PWD meets Astre for the first time in the cup final with both sides chasing a first crown and the new champion of the prestigious event which Stade Renard won in 2020.
PWD social football club of Bamenda, and Astres of Douala, had defied all the odds to reach the finals, eliminating big names like Cotonsport, Canon and Union on their way. With both PWD haven lost the Cup finals two and three times respectively, in the clubs history, but the wait for glory has been longer than they expected.

Finalists PWD Social Football club of Bamenda guided by coach David Pagou, has had multiple training camps, during which they took part in multiple tournaments just like Astre of coach Anicet Mbarga Foe.
PWD_ASTRES: Their Cameroon cup story
As mentioned earlier, PWD will be in their third cup final, while Astres will be making their fourth appearance at the Cameroon cup final.
For the Abakwa Boys, it will be the first time in the 21st century that they’re featuring at this stage of the competition. The legendary North West outfit, with a star studded squad, played and lost two finals. In 1967 to Canon of Yaoundé (a one nil defeat), and later on in 1979 ( a 1#3 defeat to Dynamo of Douala).
Astres of Douala a.k.a the Brazilians of Bepanda with 2017 cup winner Api Eric Enjewei in their ranks these days, has lost the finals three times , in 2007 (0#1 defeat to cotonsport) 2009 (2#3 defeat to Panthère Sportive of Nde) and 2010 (a 1#2 defeat to Fovu club of Baham.
Giving the promptitude at which the Cameroon cup final is always announcement through a presidential decree, and with exactly two weeks to the end of the year, there’s still a glimmer of hope that the event can still take place. So either PWD of Boung Joel Ondoa or Astre will soon win their first Cup of Cameroon trophy .
