Cameroon Head of State, President Paul Biya attend the opening ceremony of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament at the Yaounde Olembe Stadium on Sunday January 9, 2022.
The president will be expected at the Olembe facility by 3:15pm and will oversee activities of the opening ceremony including the various chorographic displays.
He will be present in the ceremony alongside the President of the Confederation of African Football-CAF, Dr. Patrice Motsepe and dignitaries from Cameroon including Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute and the Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Cavaye Yegue Djibril.
The Cameroonian leader will also watch the first game of the competition between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Stallions of Burkina scheduled to kick off at 5pm, Cameroonian time.
According to a program released by the Local Organizing Committee of AFCON 2021-COCAN, the Head of State will leave the venue at 6:45pm, shortly after the end of the first game.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will take place in Cameroon from Sunday January 9 to Sunday February 6, 2022.
A total of 24 nations will be competing in six pools spread across five major cities in Cameroon with defending champions, the Desert Foxes of Algeria battling to retain a title they clinched during the 32nd edition of the competition held in Egypt in 2019.
