Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical Education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, on July 20, hands over the country’s flag to the two Cameroonian delegations to part take in the Commonwealth Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games at the headquarters of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee.
A delegation of 63 persons from Cameroon is expected to participate in the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games, slated for the West Midland City of Birmingham from July 28 to August 9,2022.
The delegation will comprise of 37 athletes, 16 coaches, 5 administrative staff, 5 members of the medical staff and 1 guide.
These athletes shall compete in 10 disciplines, notably; Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Weightlifting, Judo, Swimming,Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting and table tenis.
Team Cameroon has as flag bearers for the Birmingham, Commonwealth Games, Eseme Alobwede Emmanuel (athletics) and Arrey Sophina Ntui Ayuk Otay (Judo).
Meanwhile, Cameroon will be represented in the 5th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games on Turkish soil, by a delegation of 165 persons composed of 120 athletes, 30 technical supervisors, 6 members of the administrative staff and 9 members of the medical staff. These athletes shall compete in 13 disciplines, such as ;
Athletics, football, powerlifting, handball, Judo, karate, kick-boxing, swimming, wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis, para-athletic and volleyball.
Mbutman Ahmed Awal stands as Cameroon’s flag bearer for the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Cameroon has gathered a total number of 37 medals, 10 in gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze, in the six passed editions of the Commonwealth Games.
The high level hand over ceremony of the flag to the Cameroonian athletes, was graced by the participation of the Minister of Secondary Education, Women’s Empowerment, the President of the CNOSC, some local administrators of the Centre region, members of the executive bureau of the CNOSC and some federation heads.
