Henan Jianye are off to a perfect start in the Chinese Super League relegation playoffs.
Christian Bassogog of Henan Jianye and his mates recorded a narrow victory in their opening fixture of the 2020-2021 season relegation playoffs first leg game against Wuhan Zall.
A 31st minute strike (after a missed penalty) from experienced Brazilian forward José Henrique da Silva Dourado was all the host needed to start the playoffs on a good footing.
25-year-old Christian Bassogog was deployed to pull the strings from the midfield on his birthday.
The former Aalborg man did a perfect job especially after his side took the lead.
His all round performance on the on the day was excellent especially going by the connection between the midfield and the forward arm of the team.
Chinese forward Feng Boxuan replaced the Cameroon international in the 88th minute of the game as Henan Jianye looked for fresh legs to kill the game.
The score remained unchanged till full-time, thus handing Henan a first victory in the competition since they last defeated Shenzhen FC for their only other win of the season in August.
Bassogog can celebrate the win plus his birthday, but must return to work quickly to prepare for the return game on the road this Friday.
Elsewhere in the same competition, Stephane Mbia’s Shanghai Shenhua pulled a goalless draw against Shanghai East Asia in the first leg of the quarter-final of the title playoffs.
