Ghanaian online portal Ghanasoccernet.com has reported that Christian Atsu, 28, has hit the eject button on international football due to the fact that he was left in the cold by top Ghanaian football officials when he needed help most.
As per further inquiries, the left footed speedster and perhaps the closest human to Messi on the African continent asked Black Stars gaffer, C.K Akonnor to leave him out of his list of players to square off with Sudan in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
Christian Atsu is yet to mentally recover from the fact that after he pulled his hamstring in the AFCON 2019 tourney, the so-called football stakeholders abandoned him to his shadow, as he had to bear the cost even for club where he lost massive bonuses and his starting role at Newcastle United.
Former Asante Kotoko coach C.K Akonnor, respected the latter’s decision to be left out of the Black Stars latest squad, but there’s no shadow of doubt that Ghana is better when Atsu is fit, and playing.
The 5 f.t. 5 inches forward whose low center of gravity has seen him bounce off defenders two times his height has had a decent career, having played for classic clubs like: Chelsea, Porto and Newcastle amongst others.
Christian Atsu made his first appearance for the Black Stars some 8 years ago, and since then, his greatest achievement was receiving a losers medal in the 2015 AFCON finals, where he was a standout player against the Ivory Coast regardless of the outcome. He won the player of the tournament award despite his country’s defeat in the final.
All doors of one day reversing the situation have not however been slammed for the winger who has scored 10 goals in 62 appearances for country. Teammate Asamoah Gyan made a U-turn on his decision to retire international football, after having received a call from H.E Nana Akufo-Addo on May 22, 2019.
