Super Falcons of Nigeria and Braga utility player, Chinaza Uchendu has supported the cancellation of the 2019-2020 Portuguese Women’s League, which is known as Campeonato Nacional Feminino amid COVID-19 pandemic.

She disclosed this during an exclusive chat with

“I support the cancellation of the league because one has to be healthy to play, so people’s and player’s safety is more important than anything at this moment.” She said.

The Portuguese Football Federation cancelled all non-professional competitions in the country on April 8, 2020, due to the outbreak of CoronaVirus, COVID-19 in Portugal with no Champions, no promotion or relegation.
Chinaza’s Braga was in the third position on the table behind Benfica and Sporting CP, before the cancellation of the league as she awaits the league decision on clubs that will represent Portugal in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, UWCL.

“We were in the third position before the cancellation with goals difference from the second-placed club and we have a chance to participate in the next UEFA Women’s Champions League because we are still the LIGA BPI Champions until the cancellation. No new champions yet. But the federation will decide that.”

Uchendu also spoke on her training regimen during this period which is aimed at keeping her fit.
“We have team training. I train personally too because we have training plans to keep everyone in shape.” She concluded.

Chinaza Uchendu has featured for Tokas Queens, Martins Doves, Nasarawa Amazons, and Rivers Angels in the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL before joining Braga in 2018. She was part of Super Falcons’ squad that won Ghana 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON title scoring one of the penalties that saw Nigeria triumph over South Africa in the final match.
