Currently plying his trade with Iranian top flight club FC Esteghlal, 31-year-old Malian forward Cheick Diabaté has expressed his desire to return to a club in France.
“Honestly it’s been a while since I left France. And right now the only country that I am thinking of is France,” Diabaté said in an interview with France Football.
“I want to go to where I am wanted. If any team in France wants me, I will gladly join them. I am not done yet. I still have goals to score in France. When I will return the nets will tremble with my goals.”
Diabaté spent six years of his youth career with Centre Salif Keita in Mali before moving to Bordeaux where he spent another two years learning his trade.
He graduated into Bordeaux’s first team in 2008, and had six loan spells, with Ajaccio, Nancy, Osmanlispor, Metz, Benevento and Emirates before joining Esteghlal in 2019.
The 2013 French Cup winner with Bordeaux has won 39 caps for the Eagles of Mali, scoring 15 goals.
