Multiple Cameroon champion with Louves Minprof of Yaoundé, Charlene Yverna Meyong Menene has penned a two-year deal with French Women’s top-flight side Stade Reims Ladies and joins them from Chinese outfit Meizhou Hakka FC.
The French club confirmed the capture of 23-year-old Cameroon international via a post on their official social media handles this Monday, after weeks of negotiation.
The Indomitable Lionesses midfielder agreed a deal to play in Europe after just a year in China.
The Yaoundé-born midfielder made a name for herself during her seasons in Cameroon, inspiring Louves Minproff to dominate the Cameroon league and being able to cement a regular place in a talented Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon midfield before moving to China.
With 10 domestic trophies under her belt in a six-year stint at Louves Minprof and a good season in China Meyong is expected to blossom in France.
Meyong joined Louves aged 14, and carefully developed at the Club over the last six years.
The skillful dribbler with aptitude in production of inch perfect passes especially in the attacking third is a polished midfielder with an eye for goal.
The former Cameroon Under-17 and Under-20 Cameroon international made her senior debut for country under coach Joseph Ndoko, against Zambia in the group stage of the 2018 Women’s COSAFA tournament in South Africa.
She also scored her first international goal in that tournament as Cameroon finished runners-up to host and winners South Africa.
Meyong was a part of the Cameroon team that traveled to Ghana few months after for the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations. At 18 then, she featured in four of Cameroon’s five games.
Meyong Menene and the Cameroon team in that tournament finished third and qualified for the 2019 Women’s FIFA World Cup in France.
She also made the final squad for that tournament, and appeared in all of Cameroon’s four games as they exited the competition in the round of 16 after a defeat to England.
She scored one of Cameroon’s two goals in a two nil win against Congo in October last 2019. She also scored against the Ivory Coast in this the fourth round of the of Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.
Financial details about the Stade Reims deal are yet to be made public.
