The intermediate lions of Cameroon, will face Equatorial Guinea in the qualifiers for the TotalEnergies 2023 African Nations Championship scheduled for Algeria. This following the draw for the last round qualifiers, that were conducted this Thursday May 26, by the Confederation of African Football, in Cairo, Egypt.
Cameroon who hosted CHAN 2021 and finished fourth, will now have to fight for their ticket to Algeria 2023, against neighboring Equatorial Guinea.
The intermediate lions play their Equato_Guinean counterparts in the first leg in Malabo, between August 26_28, with the return game schedule in Cameroon between September 2_4.
The winner of the tie will qualify for the final phase of the TotalEnergies CHAN 2023, which will take place in Algeria from January 8 to 31, 2023.
The home based lions under the guidance of coach Martin Ndtongou Mpile, failed in their quest for glory on home soil when they hosted the competition in 2021. Eliminated at the semifinal by Morocco, the intermediate lions were outsmarted to the third place, by Guinea.
The other pairings from the UNIFFAC zone, will see the Central African Republic clash with Congo, while Chad will face multiple winner DR Congo.
