The mascot of the Total 2021 Africa Nations Championship, CHAN toured the towns of Buea and Limbe this December 30, with the towns hosting matches for the CHAN 2021. Limbe is the main venue for Group D games to take place in Limbe, at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
Thousands of Cameroonians stopped at most popular crossroads of the towns to see the mascot, Tara. The mascot Tara which represents the Lion was designed to promote the image of the Africa Nations Championship. This tour aimed to bring the competition closer to the public and make people aware that the competition starts in just a few weeks.
The Mascot began its tour in Buea by visiting the Governor of the South West Region. From there it made stops at Clerks quarters where it communes with the inhabitants, to their delight.
There was a stop at the OIC Market where the market women, businesspeople had to pause what they had to do just to see the official mascot of the competition. The ambience and enthusiasm showed by the population are indicative that the competition will be well received by the supporters of various teams participating in the tournament.
Molyko was the next stop for Tara. The Molyko stadium will serve as a training venue for teams playing in Limbe. Purse, match fixtures, hand wipes, pens and other accessories were given to the population at every stop in the Buea municipality, en route to the town of friendship Limbe.
Mutengene, Limbe Half Mile, New town, Bota were all stops for Tara away from Buea. Like Buea, the inhabitants came out powerfully to welcome the mascot. Many could be seen taking pictures with Tara as a souvenir.
The tour of Tara in the town of Buea/Limbe comes after a similar expedition by the official mascot of the competition to Yaounde and Douala, other cities to host matches for the competition.
Douala will host two matches; group B at the 60,000 capacity Japoma stadium with teams including Libya, Niger, Congo and DR Congo. Group C matches will be played at the Omnisports stadium of Bepanda with teams from Morocco, Togo, Rwanda and Uganda.
