The head coach of the intermediate Lions of Cameroon has ordered for the release of eight players from the ongoing training camp at the CAF Excellence center in Mbankomo.
This comes less than 24 hours after the team’s disappointingly failed to score in a draw against South Sudan in a warm-up game.
Center back Djob Lidjoh and full-back Etta Bawak are injured while six others; midfielders Mark O’ojong, Rene Ndi, Nde Collins plus sweepers Ngwang Brian, Ngede Ngede Junior and forward Arouna Dang have left camp this Sunday.
Djob has damaged anterior cruciate ligaments and is likely to miss the CHAN 2021 while Bawak has a knock in the knee and is expected to be out for at least 10 days.
“It is a slight knee problem, I hope to be fully-fit soonest,” Bawak told this Pan-African Sports News Agency.
Kick442.com is yet to put a finger on the reason for the exit of the rest of the players but there is a likelihood that the coach is unsatisfied with their output.
The Lions have been far from their best since the resumption from the COVID-19 pandemic induced break.
The coach is expected to name new call-ups in the days ahead as the team prepares to face South Sudan in another friendly on Tuesday and Cotonsport of Garoua later next week.
