The head coach of the intermediate lions of Cameroon says the game against Zimbabwe is going to be a difficult one looking as it is the opening game of the competition.
Cameroon is scheduled to face Zimbabwe in the opening game of the Africa Nations Championship, CHAN this Saturday January 16. Cameroon is looking to win the competition on home soil, becoming only the second team to host and win after champions Morocco.
In a Press conference today that featured the coach of the intermediate lions Martin Ndtoungou Mpile and striker Jacques Zoua said: “The spirit of the boys is very positive to participate in the competition. Cameroon respects its past glories and we are playing at home so we expect a great competition,” Coach Martin Mpile told reporters.
“Most of the players in 2016 that took Cameroon to the quarter finals are not here four years later. This is a new team with its own ambitions. The objective is to have a good competition and we have put the necessary ingredients to achieve that looking at the fact that we are at home.”
The coach has indicated that what matters is the game being played on the pitch for the team to have the best possible outcome they can have.
Cameroon will be making its fourth appearance in the tournament after taking part in 2011, 2016 and 2018. The team will hope to go past the quarterfinals which they did in 2011 and 2016.
It should be noted that Cameroon is in Group A alongside Zimbabwe, Mali and Burkina Faso.
