Having a man advantage for the larger part of the game yesterday, the Rwandan CHAN team got eliminated by a lone goal, although the goal came after they were also reduced to ten men, and the coach believed his side were the best on the night despite the loss.
“The best team has lost. It’s part of football, you win some and lose some. I still believe in my team and we have the best team. Our opponent took their chances and I congratulate them. We had ours and didn’t take our chances.”
He stressed that the early substitution contributed to the defeat and also doubted the red card giving to his goal-keeper
“The early two substitution disturbed us as it wasn’t part of our game plan. We ought to have taken our chances when we had the match advantage. This game is played by players that are mentally alert. The loss of the captain affected us.”
“We had a very good and fighting team. It wasn’t in our plan not to take advantage of the numerical advantage. We were not comfortable with the ball and missed our captain who was stretched off as well as our goalkeeper who was sent off. Bringing in another goalkeeper with a set piece ready for him which resulted in the goal.
“We were very unlucky today. I only doubted the red card of the goalkeeper. Maybe it was the intelligence of the Guinean player. We are very disappointed and sad to be out of the tournament. It will help us prepare for coming competitions.”
