The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have participated in their first training exercise at their base in Limbe for the Africa Nations Championship, CHAN.
The team arrived their base in Limbe this Thursday afternoon and had a session later in the day.
Before coming to Cameroon, the Taifa Stars had a friendly game against another CHAN contender in DR Congo. The game that was played in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday ended in a 1-1 draw.
Coach Etienne Ndayiragije made it clear after that friendly encounter that winning the opening game at CHAN event will be a good morale booster.
“Winning the opening match in such tournaments is very good to motivate the team and that is what we shall target,” Ndayiragije said.
The squad of the Tanzanians includes three Under 20 players. The three players Pascal Gaudance, Jackson Samwel and Abdulrazack Hamza were part of the Ngorongoro Heroes team that qualified for the Total U-20 AFCON, scheduled in Mauritania next month.
“It is important that we get into the habit of including upcoming young star players who will gain a lot of exposure by being part of the big tournaments,” said Taifa Stars coach Etienne Ndayiragije.
The Taifa Stars will open their campaign against Zambia on January 19th at the Omnisport Stadium in Limbe. They will face Namibia in the second group game before winding up against Guinea on January 27th at the Reunification Stadium in Douala.
