Though they are dealing with the lack of the Domestic football league, the country’s football team poised to take part in group D of CHAN 2020 after overcoming numerous challenges in a preparations which saw 11 players and one member of staff testing COVID-19 positive according to coach Bobby Samaria. “We were not in training for two weeks because some players and member of staff had to wait for the 3rd round of Covid-19 testing to get cleared before making the trip to Cameroon. We’ve had four training sessions since arriving Cameroon on the 15th of January and we think we already have an idea on what strategies to put up against our group rivals Guinea. Our first game is of prime importance to get us going hence we won’t be complacent to accept mediocrity from ourselves.
Team Captain Dynamo Frederick’s “in 2019, we played against the senior team made of Guinean professionals, it’s very obvious we have very little knowledge about our rivals for tomorrow’s fixture, but we count on our mental and technical abilities to grasp and break them down on match day.”
Namibia, Guinea, Zambia and Tanzania constitute group D of CHAN 2020 based in the Seaside petroleum city of Limbe, Southwest region of Cameroon.
