The Eagles of Mali have booked a place in the finals of the African Nations Championship CHAN 2020, beating the National Elephants of Guinea through penalty kicks.

Both sides held a tough one at Japoma Stadium Wednesday February 3, 2021, playing a virgin tie. 90 minutes and prolongation both teams were unable to have a goal.

Mali is now a finalist defeating Guinea 5#4 in penalty kicks.

First Half

Mohamoud Elbana from Egypt sounded his whistle at exactly 16:00 in Japoma Stadium giving a go ahead for Guinea to kick start play.

Barely 50 seconds of play a counter attack by Guinea, while Yahkoubah Barry of Guinea struggled for a goal, got in contact with Mamadou Doumbia who went down. Mamadou Doumbia was immediately substituted for Barou Sanogo for a leg injury.

Beautiful play from both sides with much determination. 13 minutes Mali got hold of the ball good pass from Naby Camara helping Yahkoubah Barry to hit hard, fortunately for Guinea, goalkeeper Cheick Abdoul was there for a save.

Yellow card Morlaye Sylla 15 minutes of Guinea.

Guinea gained most of playtime dominating Mali at every point searching a way for a ticket to the finals.

21 minute yellow card Sekou Konate of Mali.

43 minutes Guinea with all confidence had an opportunity played upfront, a true ball sent into the danger zone of Mali Yahkoubah Barry came in with a goal but the referee Mohamoud Elbana sounded his whistle saying it was an off side.

Guinea maintained the pressure making more attempts than expected. Yahkouba once more with the ball frustrated two defenders sent a direct one into Mali’s danger zone, goalkeeper Cheick receives it easily.

Both sides retired for first half break on a 0#0 scoreline.

Second Half

The game resumes with more openings and seriousness. Mali utilised her game time making up fronts targetting the goal post.

56 minutes a yellow card given to Yacouba Doumbia of Mali for an infringement. A free kick for Guinea, Victor K. directs it but the goalkeeper sent it over the goalpost.

Yahkouba Barry picks the ball around the media launches a counter attack fines his way to the penalty zone, no fruit harvested.

Mali launched some encouraging attacks yet defence line of Guinea stood firm. 72 minutes a chance created for Mali poor finishing ended the action.

Coach Nouhoum Diane of Mali substituted Moussa Kone for Mamadou Coulibaly.

Coach Guillaume Soumah of Guinea brought in Mamadouba Bangoura in place of Victor Kantabadouno. Ousmane Camara came in, in place of Mohamed Coumbassa.

90 minutes, ended with a virgin tie.

Prolongation

It became more as the minutes gradually died ti seconds. The additional for prolongation turned out to be the most interesting and serious moment.

The Eagles of Mali and National Elephants of Guinea used the time creating openings for victory.

It is evident both goalkeepers played the lead role. Shots on target in the first 15minutes but were all stopped.

Five minutes to the end of game time, Guinea had a chance to change the scoreboard to their favour but Mamadou Bangoura was not vigilant enough to control his shot.

Goalkeeper Camara Moussa of Guinea was substituted for Sekouba Camara.
