Lappé Bangoura, the Head coach for the local Syli of Guinea says the ambition of the team at the moment is to qualify for the second round of the competition. Guinea is participating in the CHAN for the third time with their best performance being fourth place in 2016.
“The organization is superb concerning the hospitality that has been accorded to us for the competition,” Coach Lappé Bangoura of Guinea said.
“The ambition is to qualify for the second round and I have a team that can do that. Everything has been put in place. We have the will and all the physical aspect has been put in place to achieve that goal.”
Coach Lappé Bangoura further noted that they have a lot of respect for the teams that are in their group. To him, the group is seen as the pool of death giving the quality of teams that are in it.
Guinea will be making its third participation in the CHAN. The coach is looking at the solidarity and togetherness of the team to get them through the pool as no player is above the other in the team. One of their key players will not be taking part in the game tomorrow after he sustained an injury while training.
The local selection coach by Lappé Bangoura had a friendly match against the locals of Togo on January 4. Guinea then had two friendly encounters against Morocco before arriving Cameroon.
It should be recalled that the best performance of Guinea has been that of a fourth-place finish in 2016, something the coach is looking at addressing this year in Cameroon. Guinea’s first match that comes up this January 19 will be followed by their second game on January 23 against Zambia.
