With Cameroon heading into a crucial encounter knowing a defeat against Burkina Faso and Mali’s draw against Zimbabwe sends them out of the competition, the stake could not be any higher.
In their last training session on Saturday, the intermediate Lions received a blessing and inspirational words from Cameroonian great Samuel Eto’o as they prepared to face Burkina Faso.
The AFCON winner and multiple awards winner in the international stage called on his colleagues to dream big. “When you go to play tomorrow ask God what you want but give all you have inside because he (God) will not come to play in your place,” Samuel Eto’o said.
In two games for the intermediate Lions, the team has succeeded in winning one and drawing the other. The team won Zimbabwe 1-0 in the opening day of play and drew 1-1 with Mali on day two.
“I know how to play ball; you know how to play ball and when you know how to play ball the rest follows. I entered this stadium and I did what I love most, to serve my beautiful country. We have pressure because we are in the stands but you do not have pressure because you are playing. It depends on your legs, I have it and I have to shout at the stands my dear brothers,” Samuel Eto’o a treble winner at both FC Barcelona and Inter Milan told the intermediate Lions players
It should be noted that a draw for Cameroon guarantees them a place in the knockout stages. However, should Mali win Zimbabwe, Cameroon will finish runners up to Mali. But a victory for Cameroon will dash the hopes of Burkina Faso qualifying and maintains Cameroon at the top of Group A.
The table for Group A sees Cameroon with 4 points, followed by Mali with 4 points. Burkina Faso is third with 3 points and Zimbabwe who has already been eliminated from the competition has 0 point.
