Winners of the maiden edition of the CHAN in 2009, Democratic a Republic of Congo are in Cameroon ahead of the 6th edition of the tournament.
DRC are in a race for the third CHAN trophy, highest winners of the CHAN and landed in Cameroon Thursday January 14,2021.
Coach Florent Ibenge and boys booked a slot in this year’s showpiece to Cameroon after a triumphant 4-1 victory at home Sunday in Kinshasa against the Central African Republic to go through 6-1 on aggregate.
Their 3-1 victory at home in the first leg has proved enough to sail them through to the competition for the fourth time.
The 2009 and 2016 champions will want to make necessary adjustments for failing to qualify for the 2018 edition in Morocco.
DR Congo remain the only team to win CHAN title twice, in 2009 and 2016.
The Democratic Republic of Congo headlines group B. They are the most successful team in the competition. They have won the competition twice (2009 and 2016) out of the five editions and will hope to make it three times during the Cameroon expedition.
DR Congo is headed by Coach Florent Ibenge who has better mastery of the CHAN and has hopes for a better performance.
Intermediate Leopards of DR Congo won the inaugural edition of the tournament in Ivory Coast, 2009.
They started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Libya in Group B. DR Congo was forced to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe in their second group game before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Ghana in their final group game.
A 2-1 win against Zambia in the semi-final paved the way for their first title in the final where they secured sweet revenge with a 2-0 triumph over Ghana at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Abidjan.
They are pitted this in Group B with Congo, Niger and Libya
