The Chipolopolo of Zambia has January 14 held their first training session at the Buea Omnisport Stadium shortly after arriving the town. The team is fine-tuning preparations for the start of the Africa Nations Championship, CHAN. Â
The Africa Nations Championship, a competition for locally-based players is scheduled to kick off this Saturday, January 16 as the intermediate lions of Cameroon face the warriors of Zimbabwe.
Images provided by the team’s media officer show the boys of Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic being put to their paces – A fun exercise with the smiles visible on the player’s faces.
The Chipolopolo are the first team to touch down in Buea where it is reported that Namibia is also going to set up its base. The Region (Buea and Limbe) will also be home to Tanzania and Guinea.
Meantime the team has been officially welcomed to the municipality by the Governor of the Region. Bernard Okalia Bilai wished the team a successful stay in the municipality. “We hope that you will enjoy the city of Buea and that after football you will come back as a tourist,” He said as per the team press officer of the Zambia team.
“I wish you a wonderful stay. Since you are the first delegation to arrive, we also wish that you will be the first in everything.”
Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has on behalf of the players, and technical team, President of their country and Association thanked Cameroonians for their warm welcome.
He and his Zambian team will hope to go further this year than they did in Morocco (2018) after finishing at the quarter-finals.
The first game for Zambia comes up on January 19 at 5 pm local time against Tanzania. The second game will be played on January 23 (5 pm local time) against Guinea while the last group game comes up January 27 (8 pm local time) against Namibia.
