Esperance of Tunis avoided a scare in their run to defend their double this season after being reduced to 10 men against Étoile Du Sahel during match day 22 of the Tunisian Ligue 1.
The all time Tunisian champions are in persuit to retain the CAF champions League and the Tunisia league 1 title.
The defending Tunisian champions held Espoire du Sahel to a goaless draw at the Stade Olympique de Sousse to frustrate their ambitions of closing the point gap between both teams. Khalil Chemmam was sent off at the 75th minute but Espoire couldn’t get a win to enable them bridge the gap and frustrate Esperance chances.
Esperance lead the Tunisian top flight Ligue with 53 points while Espoire are still second of the table with 44 points ,9 points behind record winning Esperance.
The 2019 CAF champions League finalist had won all their five previous games In the league before Saturdays goaless draw against Espoire in Sousse. Both teams seperated on thesame score during the first leg encounter in 2018.
Espoire du Sahel were hoping to draw back Esperance Of Tunis while counting on home advantage. The last time the won a fixture against the defending champions was in 2015.
The Tunisian giants will have to leave no stone unturned if they have to retain their title, 4 days to the end of the Tunisian Ligue 1. Espoire will be hoping for a slip up from the champions and are expected to win all their last four games.
Esperance of Tunis are also into the final of the CAF champions League and are looking forward to retain their continental glory against Wydad Athletic of Casablanca.
