Ugandan Cubs, on Tuesday defeated Serengeti Boys of Tanzania in the final to emerge Under Seventeen champion of The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) for the second consecutive year.
Uganda secured the title with a 3-1 win after regulation time.
The two teams had qualified for the 2021 African Cup of Nations holding in Morocco, but there was all to play for as the final took centre stage at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.
It was Ivan Irinimbabazi who gave Uganda the lead in 63rd minutes with a powerful header after a free kick by Vincent Mulema.
Travis Mutyaba aka Lionel Messi doubled the lead for Uganda cubs. Tanzania pulled one back through an own goal by Vincent Mulema in the 83rd minutes.
But Uganda’s captain Ibrahim Juma put the game beyond Tanzania as he scored from the penalty spot in the 89th minutes to make it 3-1.
The Cubs maintained their five star performance conceding just once since the beginning of the tournament to retain the title won in 2019.
A win 5-0 against Kenya and a 3-0 win over Ethiopia in the group stage. It conquered Djibouti 1-0 at the semi final before out smarting their close rival in the final.
In the third place playoff, Ethiopia prove too good for Djibouti as they triumph 5-2 to take bronze.
Uganda dominated the award ceremony of the competition after the best goalkeeper, striker and most valuable player awarda all went to Uganda.
Henry Mwembe took the best goalkeeper award after conceding just a goal in the tournament. Top scorer award was won by Oscar Mawa with six Goals while the best player award went to Travis Mutyaba.
