38_year_old Cameroonian shot stopper Idriss Carlos Kameni, has made himself available for the indomitable lions, should his services be needed.
The former Espanyol goalkeeper who now plys his trade with Djibouti Premier League side Arta Solar 7, last featured for Cameroon at AFCON 2019 in Egypt, where he was back up to Andre Onana and Fabrice Ondoa.
Three years since his last called up to the indomitable lions squad, Kameni is still hoping to have one more chance to represent his Nation.
“I still consider myself an Indomitable Lion insofar as I have not yet announced my sporting or international retirement,” Kameni said during a program on Douala based My Media Prime TV.
“I am always competitive, if ever my country needs me, I will be there,” he added.
In his over 22 years career as a professional Footballer, Carlos Kameni has won 73 caps for the indomitable lions of Cameroon, featuring in over Five AFCON’s.
In 2019, Kameni said he was not thinking of retirement yet, a similar stance he is still keeping three years after.
“I don’t think about retiring now. I still feel I have some energy and if the country needs me, why not. I am ready to serve if called upon,” Kameni said in 2019.
The Olympic gold medalist spend most of his career in Spain where he represented RCD Espanyol and Málaga CF. His last stint in Europe was at Fenerbahçe before he returned to the African Continent to join Arta Solar 7 in April 2021.
With his former teammate Rigobert Song Bahanag now head coach of the indomitable lions, Kameni will be hoping to make it in Cameroon’s squad for the FIFA World cup in Qatar later this year.
