The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon of head coach Antonio Conceiçao Da Silva will take on the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on Friday, March 26 as part 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign knowing a point will be enough to senior qualification while for the host it is a must win game.
Antonio Conceiçao will be looking to keep his unbeaten run at the helm of the Indomitable Lions who have become more resilient since the arrival of the Portuguese over a year ago.
The build up to this game has been dominated by questions over the non-selection of Bayern Munich forward Eric Choupo-Moting. The Bayern Munich forward’s father claimed his son didn’t receive an invitation for the current international break though the Cameroon Football Federation insist they did all as expected to get all the players the coach invited.
In their last six games under António Conceição, Cameroon have won three and drawn three. This means the Lions are unbeaten under the Portuguese trainer who faces
Pedro Leitão Brito in the opposition dugout for the first time.
Bubista as he is fondly called was made coach of the team in January 2020 and has picked up two points in his opening two games thanks to two goalless draws.
In their last six games, Cape Verde have have won one, drawn four and lost one.
In their five previous meetings this century, Cameroon have won three while Cape Verde have one win to their credit and the other game which is the most recent ended in a draw.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are on a run of two wins in a row and have conceded in just one of their last six games.
On their part Cape Verde have not lost just once by 2-1 to Guinea in an international friendly.
Both teams have relative defensive solidity with five clean sheets for Cameroon in their last six games while Cape Verde has kept back-to-back clean sheets and three clean sheets in their past six games.
The last meeting between this two teams dates November 13, 2019 and Cameroon it ended in a goalless draw in Yaoundé-Cameroon.
Cameroon however lost by 2-0 in their last visit to Cape Verde in September 2012 in an AFCON 2013 qualifiers encounter.
Team News: Both sides are without their French-based players and in addition Cameroon will be without Fulham’s Zambo Anguissa as the England-based midfielder was prevented from traveling due to England’s Classification of Cape Verde as a highly risky country for Covid-19.

Cameroon are the host country for the 2021 AFCON, so this game might be seen as a mere formality for them, though captain Vincent Aboubakar has insisted about getting a result for their confidence and to improve their FIFA rankings. Though the stakes for the game are higher for Cape Verde who must win to get off the bottom of group F. They know it will be a tough ask to get a win against a confident Cameroon side unbeaten in close to two years.
Cameroon are favorites to win this contest but it will be wrong to write off the Blue Sharks at home in Praia. There is therefore no room for complacency for both sides.
