Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defender Jean-Claude Billong, of French Ligue 1 side Clermont has been ruled out of the TotalErnegies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
26-year Billong who last-featured for his club in the 2-2 draw at home to RC Lens twi weeks nursing an ankle problem set to keep him out for a while.
“Sad to announce that I can’t honor my callup for the 2021 AFCON in my country in Cameroon, due to an ankle injury.”
Billong was initially expected to be out for two weeks missing games Montpelier and Angers plus their round of 64 cup game away to Chemin but unfortunately he is not recovering as anticipated.
Unfortunately for the defender, the injury ends a good run he was enjoying, as he had started three games in a rule before picking the latest problem and worse of all he has been his unavailability for the AFCON.
The ex-Hatayaspor defender is the second sweeper for the Indomitable Lions. Harold Moukoudi of Cameroon to picked up an injury.
Billong could be back in action on in January, for the Ligue 1 game at home to RC Strasbourg, thus making it possible for him to play another game for his club before the traveling home for the Indomitable Lions camp which opens on December 25.
Antonio Conceiçao is expected to trim to Cameroon’s provisional squad for the AFCON next week and the Lions will assemble at the Mundi Sports complex to prepare for the second coming of the tournament to Cameroon – this after 50 years.
The four-capped Cameroon international, Billong will be a big miss for the Cameroon team.
