Hundreds of Cameroonians have taken to social media to simulate developments of the opening game of the 2020 CHAN competition.
Without the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic, Cameroon will have faced Zimbabwe in the CHAN 2020 opener this Saturday in Yaounde.
A whole generation of Cameroonians have waited for the continent to assemble in the country for a senior men’s competition. Unfortunately, they have to wait even longer.
Last year, football lovers in the Central African nation had it snatched from them in the last minute when in a famous meeting in Accra-Ghana they announced they were taking the long awaited 2019 AFCON elsewhere.
Cameroonians swallowed that and life continued, they followed the rest of them to Egypt.
Few months after the forgettable Egyptian jamboree,Cameroon was awarded the responsibility to host the 2020 African Nations Championship, CHAN competition, yet again came another disappointment.
CAF announced less than two weeks to the kick off the competition that they were postponing the event indefinitely because of the health threats of Covid-19.
Cameroonians could not believe the news, unfortunately this is a reality for all in a Continent with thousands of infected persons.
Cameroonians are still to fully accept they will have to wait again.
Cameroon had to face Zimbabwe in the opening games of the competition.
Hundred of Cameroonians have taken to social media this Saturday to simulate reports of the game as if the tournament stated today.
The different commentaries on the opening game on the different social media platforms once again illustrated the anxiety to see a major men’s competition in their country.
Many of the comments reported a one-nil win for Cameroon. Nice way to begin a competition but unfortunately they have to wait until the world wins it’s battle against Covid-19 before they have a taste of their expectations.
Fingers are crossed and nobody knows when CAF is coming to Roger Milla’s country with it’s 16 nations CHAN competition, it may even be a wait till 2021.
Football is a religion in this place, they really want it here.
