Stellenbosch FC jury in charge of naming the club’s player of the season have picked Midfield Maestro Junior Awono as the club’s most performant player for the just ended Season.
Awono beat top scorer Rayners to pick the most coveted individual trophy at the club following his outstanding performance over the course of the 2019 Football Season.
Stellenbosch FC sealed the title with 56 points after recording 16 wins,8 draws and 6 defeats in 30 games this season thus earning promotion to the ABSA premiership next season.
Awono was involved in 29 of the 30 games in the run to the title and the above indicate the boys of Coach Barker were the form team among the 16 NFD teams and spent more than four months at the top of the league with an 11-point lead over the chasing pack at one stage in. It is a wonderful time for the 3 year old club (formerly known as Vasco da Gama) and Coach Steve Barker who also took University of Pretoria to this heights 7 years ago.
In the 29 games played the box to box midfielder mostly deployed as a holding Midfielder provided 2 assists and scored a goal in 27 starts.
Awono was very instrumental to his club’s success this Season despite the multiple attention from other clubs.
The former Renaissance,YOSA and Intermediate Lions captain will join the Cameroonian folk in the South Africa top flight next season should he decide to sign a new deal to keep him at Stellenbosch FC.
