Former Lions international ,Saidou Alioum will soon become champion of the Turkish Super Lig with Istanbul Basaksehir for the first time since 1990 ,6 days to the end of the championship.
Instanbul Besaksehir were promoted to the Turkish Super Lig in 2007 and have since then nursed ambition to dominate football in Turkey.
The former indomitable lions defensive midfielder who is the clubs assistant coach has been instrumental in ensuring Instanbul Basaksehir tops the league, aiming for their first domestic league title after finishing runner-ups in 2016.
His expertise as well as that of current headcoach Abdullah Avci has been key in challenging Leagues favourite Galatasaray and Besiktas.
The Maroua born football tactician has a good knowledge of Turkish football following his positive spell in Turkey were he played with some top flight clubs in the Turkish league.
He won the Super Lig with Galatasaray in 2005 and the Turkish Cup with Kayserispor in 2008.
After 28 days played into the Turkish first tier league,Basaksehir is first with 61 points,5 points from second placed Galatasaray and 8 points from Besiktas on the third position.
The Turkish club finished 3rd last season on 72 points and have improved tremendously this season.
They are rated as the best team in Turkey this season and have conceded fewer goals than any other club.
The host Caykur Rizespor this weekend and roundoff the season at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu ,Instanbul infront of their home crowd hopefully to lift their first domestic title in close to three decades.
Who Is Saidou Alioum?
Saidou Alioum was born on the 19th of February 1978.
He quickly distinguished himself from the rest of his mates by being a midfielder per excellence.
He began his professional career with Olympic of Maroua,where he later joined Coton Sport of Garoua with whom he became double Champion of Cameroon in 1997 and 1998.
In 1999,he started playing for Istanbulspor in Turkey where he spent 5 years at the club.
He was later called up by City rivals Galatasaray on a Two year deal.
At the end of his contract,he signed a 2 year deal with Nantes where he played for a season.
He left the French side for Koyserispor in 2007 and later joined Sivasspor in 2010.
Aliom began his career as a coach in 2014 at Istanbul Basaksehir as a scout in charge of recruiting players for two seasons.
Since 2016, Alioum Saidou has been assistant coach.
He has groomed world class players like Arda Turan,Demba Ba,Robinho, Adebayor and Clichy.
