The three national championships runned by the Cameroon Transitional Technical Committee, CTT and the Cameroon women’s football league, LFFC on FECAFOOT’s mandates have been abandoned with immediate effect.
The top-flight Championship has been abandoned after at least 28 games [just six games left] for all clubs involved while in the second tier Championship 23 of the 26 games had been played.
The decision was announced on Tuesday 12th May 2020 after many hours of consultative talks between members of the government of Cameroon and officials of FECAFOOT.
The CTT and LFFC has resolved to name PWD Social Club of Bamenda,Astres of Douala,Louves Minprof of Yaounde as champions of the Elite One, Two and Women’s championships respectively.
The decision equally states that Astres and YAFOOT FC will be promoted to the top-flight while no club will be relegated leaving the top-flight competition with 20 clubs next term and the second tier competition with 12 clubs as no club will be promoted from the Regional Championships which have been abandoned.
In the women’s championship, no club will be relegated from the topflight championship.
The federation has decided that PWD of Bamenda and Cotonsport of Garoua will represent the country in the CAF Champions League.
Champions for the first time in 54 years PWD will represent the country in the CAF Champions League while runners up Cotonsport of Garoua will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2020/2021 season.
This comes Eight weeks after the Championships were halted following the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic in Cameroon.
Cameroon joins the likes of Mauritius Island, Guinea,Kenya, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso who have officially abandoned their domestic championship for this football season.
