Cameroon international Gael Bella Ondoua who will be hoping for his first appearance for his national team says he is delighted to be part of the Cameroon set up to confront the Desert Foxes of Algeria.
The indomitable Lions will face Algeria this Friday, March 25 at 6 pm local time at the Douala Japoma Stadium in the first leg of the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup. The return leg is scheduled four days later in Algeria with both teams expecting nothing short of a victory on legs.
“It is a pleasure to defend the colours of my country by participating in this new challenge,” Gael Bella Ondoa, who plays for Hannover 96 in Germany, told FECAFOOT TV ahead of the crucial encounter for his country and him personally.
26-year-old former CSKA Moscow midfielder received his first called up to the Cameroon national team back on March 7 from Head Coach Rigobert Song as he pre-selected 38 players for the encounter. The list was later trimmed down to 27 with Ondoa keeping his place in the final selection.
“Due to the pre-selection phase, many of my colleagues called me that I was selected to play the game against Algeria, I was very happy but I knew that the final list was still to come out. When I was selected on the final list, I told myself that I still have a role to play,” Gael Bella Ondoua added.
“My mom equally called me telling me how happy she was to the pointy of shedding tears over the phone. She told me that it is a new page for me to write a new story. She added that the dream of defending the colours of her nation has been realized.”
“Like any other supporter of the Lions, I am behind the team to support them. Our coach Rigobert Song with the fighting spirit that he preaches we will be able to overcome the Algerians.”
