The boys of coach António Conceição ended their AFCON 2021 qualifiers as they began playing a zero all tie against Rwanda at the Japoma stadium in Douala as the Amavubis were prevented from coming back to the country next year for the grand event.
The Lions started the match pressing the Amavubi and forcing them to play in their own half but 3 minutes in Simon Omossola came face to face with the Rwandan attack and foiled their onslot after a beautiful combination upfront from the lion’s.
10 minutes in Aboubakar tried a shot from outside the box but his effort wasn’t enough to trouble Kwizera in goal.
Just 2 minutes later Cameroon’s skipper was set up by Fai Collins but his shot went wide this time inside the Rwandan 18-yard area.
Both teams enjoyed passing the ball without creating any danger for over 10 minutes until a good defending from fauvre azures meyapya at the half hour mark stopped a Rwandan incursion.
Lague Byiringo of APR FC the man who has been troubling the cameroon defence had a shot of target as Vincent Aboubakar produced a glorious opportunity to put the lions ahead but the ball he took on his chest couldn’t reach his foot as it was well defended by the Amavubi back line to keep both teams on parity.
The first half ended zero all, a half marked by misplaced passes and poor touches and very little produced from both sides in an empty stadium void of spectators.
Both teams came back from the dressing room unchanged as medie kagere recorded the first shot on target of the game with a poor header that was no trouble for the debutant in the Cameroon goal post minutes after resumption.
Three minutes later Fai Collins set up Clinton Njie with a sumptuous cross into the box but the Dynamo Moscow forward couldn’t connect cleanly with the ball.
The Amavubi’s were reduced to 10 men in the 53rd minute as Kwizera was sent off for a reckless tackle on Moumie Ngamaleu who smuggled himself within the cracks in the Rwandan defense to come face to face and fowled by the goalkeeper who was shown the exit.
Mukunzi Yannick was sacrificed for substitute keeper Emery Mvuyekure.
Aboubakar Vincent made the new man produce a fine safe with a well worked free kick from Kunde Malong.
Ako Loïc Assomo was introduced for his second appearance with the Senior national team for Njie and helped set up a pass for Ngamaleu who volleyed this shot wide.
Samuel Oum Gouet was sent in to replace Meyapia Blondon who was forced off the Field of play by an injury.
10-man Rwanda kept on pilling the pressure with another tamed shot from Haruna Niyonzima in the 78th minute of play.
Coach António Conceição gave Man Ykre his first start for the lions along side yan eteki and tabekeu coming for Kunde Malong, Zambo and Moumie Ngamaleu.
Man Ykre almost made his debut a perfect one when he was put clean through but face to face with the keeper he fluffed his lines with a lobe that went over the crossbar eight minutes to full-time.
Cameroon created two glorious opportunities in the last 72 minutes of the game but no team could beat the other as the game ended on a Virgin scoreline.
