Cameroon is amongst a list of 13 countries that have qualified for the 2021 edition of the AfroBasket, a men’s basketball continental championship of Africa.
Cameroon’s victory against Guinea (98-67) at the Palais Polyvalent des Sports on Saturday ensured that the team will be in Rwanda. Unfortunately, Cameroon was beaten 57-64 against Ivory Coast.
The 2021 AfroBasket will be in its 30th edition in Rwanda. The tournament begins August 24 to 5 September due to the COVID-19. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August.
Cameroon sits second in Group C with 8 points, though playing one game less. The game against Equatorial Guinea on Friday did not take place due to COVID-19 restrictions as Equatorial Guinea arrived in Cameroon late.
Team Cameroon will be making its tenth participation at the competition. They were runners-up in 2007 and this present generation of stars will be looking forward to going above that mark.
Cameroon is definitely in good hands heading into the competition. Aristide Mouaha Tcheussi, Philippe Jordan Bayehe has looked exceptional in the qualifiers. Williams Narace had thirteen points against Ivory Coast.
The team also counts on the experience of Yangue Frank. Against Ivory Coast, Yangue Frank was one of Cameroon’s best performers. He had an efficiency rate of +12 and had four points in the game; ten rebounds and two blocks.
Teams qualified for the AfroBasket 2021includes host Rwanda, Nigeria, South Sudan, Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Angola, Egypt, Cameroon, CAR, DR Congo and Kenya. Three teams will be expected to join the above teams.
