The round 5 clash pitting Astres of Douala to Stade Renard of Melong in  Limbe will be one of the many derbies in this round of the Cameroon League one Championship. The game takes place at the same middle farms stadium where Stade Renard beat Astres last season.

This game will be a very interesting one between two clubs from the Littoral region of Cameroon. Therefore this game will be a Littoral Derby which is the second for Stade Renard this season but only the first for Astres of Douala. Stade Renard suffered their only defeat of the season in round 3 of the championship.

Surprisingly to the young generation of Cameroon fans Football fans,Stade Renard the visiting team is an older institution than Astres that was created in 2002.

Renard as the club is popularly called is their 3rd season since their return to the top flight in 2017 alongside Colombe and Feutcheu FC while AStres has been in the league for over a decade now and both clubs are still to win a major domestic title with Astres finished 3rd on three occasion while Renard’s best finish came in 2017 when they finished 5th.

Pitch Condition

The game will be played in the Natural grass turf in middle farms-Limbe.

Stade Renard’s has always been a ball on the turf club but also noted for suffering on synthentic pitches. Their last 1 nil win thanks to a penalty from captain Nkuissi Thomas Legrand was in a good natural grass pitch in Bafoussam demonstrating how comfortable the club is in such surfaces.

Astres on their part played over 50% of their games last season on good pitches as te club has been hosting opponents in Limbe for over a season now thus making this one a very interesting one.

Current Form

Both sides come into this one on the back of impressive wins.

Home side Astres of Douala have played just 3 games this season and in those 3 games, the club has picked up two wins and suffered just a defeat which came in the opening round of the championship. In the last 3 games Astres have scored at least a goal and a total of 6 goals. The boys of Olivier Nankam have kept just one clean sheet in their 3 games which is what the back-line may be worried about.

Visitors Stade Renard of Melong have played 4 games this season, of which they have won 2,draw in 1 and accepted 1 defeat. The only defeat this season came against UMS Loum in round 3 when they conceded two penalty goals from Willy Nnameji and Raymond Fotso to accept a 2 nil defeat. After that game the club has grown in confidence especially after they travelled to Bafoussam and beat Fovu. The defensive Anchor of Aloukou Thierry and Nkuissi Legrand has prevented them from conceding from open play this season.

Head To Head

Since Stade Renard came back to the top flight championship in 2017,they have accepted just 1 defeat in 4 games against Astres of Douala. The 3-2 win for Astres in the first meeting in the 2017 season, Stade Renard have won the other 3 League meetings conceding just one goal in that run. So Stade renard can boast of 3 victories in 4 clashes since their promotion to the top flight. In fact in that run Stade Renard have scored 6 goals and conceded 4 but have kept 2 clean sheets and scored twice in their last two games.

Players To Watch

Last season Former Stade Renard Midfielder,Arno Ndzana scored a second half winner in this fixture but in that game Nana Ngatche was the star man in the right back area for Stade Renard, his incisive runs and wicked crosses put the Astres Backline in all sorts of problems in the reverse game, Nkuissi Thomas scored a late winner in the 94th minute of the game to give the Melong boys all 3 points at home. Legrand,Nana and Bomba in form in Limbe could mean danger for Astres whose main “weapon” could be forward. Armand Ngosso plus goalkeeper Collins Maifanya.

This is certainly one to enjoy this Sunday at 3:30 PM at the Middle farms Stadium. A win for any of the two clubs will be a massive step towards guaranteeing safety and a good foundation to build hopes of a top 3 finish in a group of heavy weight clubs.
