Barely 2 playing days to go to the end of the second round of the league two championship, AS FAP of Yaoundé is certain for a place in the play-off phase of the championship, that will determine the 3 teams to be promoted to the league one. FAP has been one of the surprise packages in the league this year, with scintillating performances against league’s big boys like Canon, Panthere, Bang Bullet, Dynamo and Matelots.
With 2 matches to go in pool A, and given the gap between first place FAP and 4th placed AS Matelots, it is obvious that the latter can not catch up with FAP, even if they win all their remaining games. FAP currently tops the group with 24 points, while Matelots has record just 16 points, with a 8 points gap between the two sides. Should Matelots win their 1 remaining game, it can only take their point tally to 19points, which will still be five points short of FAP’s current point tally.
FAP has been ruthless to opponents this season, winning 7 of their 11 games played, recording 3 draws and suffering defeat just once. The team also counts the best attack in the league with 22 goals scored and just 8 goals conceded. In just their first season in the league two, FAP is also certain of securing the top spot in Pool A, despite their zero draw with Canon in Match day 12 action, given that they are 7 points clear of their immediate challenger, Panthere Sportive of Nde, who has 17 points. Their next opponents in the league, Bang Bullet, will find it difficult to stop a free scoring FAP side with the likes of league two top scorer Fredrick Etoum Bang and his teammates Herve Eloundou Ngono and Emmanuel Che. The team will be on standby on the 13 playing day, before visiting Bang Bullet, in a tricky day 14 encounter, while 4th placed Matelots will be exempted from day 14 action.
