The quest to pick up the available tickets for the league one Championship, is getting tense, and will certainly go down the wire. The playoffs in the league two this weekend, will offer football lovers in the Center Region the opportunity to watch two teams that were characteristic of the top flight, but now unfortunately plying their trade in the second tier. Canon of Yaounde, a.k.a the Kpa_Kum and Bamboutos of Mbouda a.k.a the Mangwa boys, two household names in Cameroon football, will go head to head this Sunday in one of day three games of the playoffs.
Just two points separate the two sides in the current rankings, with Canon having an upper hand, courtesy of their 3#nil win over FAP last weekend. The Kpa_Kum have just one win in two playoff games, but are still better than Bamboutos who surrendered a lead against leopard, and could on manage a draw against Panthere. A star studded Bamboutos, with multi-talented and experienced players, have performed below expectations this term, coupled with their shocking Cameroon Cup exit. The Mangwa faithful must still believe their league one ambitions have not been sacrificed.
The Mangwa boys believe they can get back to the league one championship through two ways, First by winning their remaining league games and secondly through an office decision, similar to the one that relegated them, as they await the final decision from the worlds football governing body, FIFA.
After Bamboutos’ defeat to Jeunesse Athletic of Obala last Thursday in the Cameroon cup, kick442.com caught up with the coach of the Mangwa boys, Anicet Mbarga Foe, and asked him about the objectives of his team, and he said “this season our main objective is to get back to the league one. Maybe we are going to make it through our efforts on the pitch, and we are also waiting the decision of FIFA that is coming soon”. Just few hours to their crucial game against Canon, Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe testified that they have little knowledge of the current Canon squad.
“We are going to mobilize ourselves, and look at the strength and weaknesses of Canon. We have not seen them play for a long time, but we are going to look for a way to succeed in the game against Canon”.
Canon was relegated to the league two championship in 2017, while for Bamboutos, they were forced to the inferior league at the end of the 2018 campaign by a decision from FIFA, for violating the terms of contract of their former coach,Jules Buyle. The two sides are now eager to get back to the top tier, where they believe it’s where they belong.
